SonSet® Radios: Delivering God’s Word

The SonSet radio is a solar-powered portable radio receiver that can deliver the message of hope and reconciliation through Jesus Christ to hundreds of thousands of people who have never heard the gospel.

These hand-held radios are tuned to the specific radio frequency of our local ministry partners. They include an internal battery, which is rechargeable using the attached solar panel or by using a USB power source. Our ministry partners are sharing how this little device is making a big impact in their communities.

“Many people got this radio and get saved through listening to this radio.” – Alfred, Madagascar

Our goal is to fund 12,000 SonSet radios in 2019! A single SonSet radio costs just $40. Our focus this year is on ministries who are working with refugees in Africa, First Nations people in North America, communities living in the African Sahel, and isolated people groups in South America. We are, of course, always open to opportunities outside of these focus groups.

How You Can Be Involved:

First, pray for the “SonSet Radios: Delivering God’s Word” campaign and the impact the radios will have on the lives of those who receive them.

Secondly, encourage your local church to participate in the campaign! Tell your pastor, let your friends know, or get your small group involved.

How Your Church Can Help:

We want to challenge churches to come together to supply God’s word to our partners all over the globe through SonSet radios. Here are some ways your church can get involved:

  1. Prayer – Prayer is such an important part of the ministry we do around the world. Each morning our team gathers together to pray for our partners. Why not join us in asking the Lord to supply the resources to fund these 12,000 radios this year.
  2. “Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak the mystery of Christ … ” – Colossians 4:2-3a
  3. Church Campaign – Raise funds in your church for radios by hosting a missions dinner, craft fair, or Christmas tea and donating the proceeds towards the purchase of SonSet radios. Use SonSet radios as the missions project for a children’s ministry, youth ministry, or a small group!
  4. “Kirk has come up with a creative way to kick off our radio campaign this Sunday using the radio you sent. It’s a pretty nifty little gadget…with a BIG purpose! Thanks again for getting it to us!” – Martha, Lima Baptist Church
  5. Radio Preparation – We encourage work teams from local churches to join us as we prepare SonSet radios for shipment. It typically takes a team of six to eight people just a few hours to prepare 300 radios for shipment, and no technical experience is required. Last year we hosted nine SonSet radio work teams.

“Miss Anet and Miss Kais, both with visual impairments, today trekked for 10 kilometers on foot, accompanied by a guide, to request SonSet solar radios. Ms. Kakayo says she accepted Jesus Christ after getting inspiration from daily preaching on Usalama FM. Note that every day over 50 people, mainly refugees across the Adjumani (refugee) settlements, visit Usalama FM to request a SonSet solar radio.” – Martin Okudi, general manager of Radio Usalama FM, northern Uganda
