Vance and his late wife, Phyllis, served for many years in an inner-city church of Chicago. In 1996, he and his family relocated to the south suburbs where they again became involved with a local church where he is still a member. While at both churches, Vance served in various ministry roles in AWANA, Sunday school, preaching (limited), as well as church leadership. As a result of their long involvement with the ministries of Cedar Lake Bible Conference Grounds (now called Cedar Lake Ministries), he and his family were introduced to the HCJB Technology Center in Elkhart. In 2007, Vance volunteered for a couple of weeks in Elkhart, contributing toward a solution for an engineering issue with transmitter power supplies. He is currently involved a part-time capacity with SonSet Solutions working on power protection designs. Vance has a deep desire to contribute in any way possible to support missions and most specifically with SonSet Solutions.
Vance has been employed by a battery charger company located in the north suburbs of Chicago for over 50 years, serving at several positions in field service and engineering roles all the way up to the Engineering manager. He is still employed by the company on a reduced capacity. He loves to troubleshoot engineering problems where he can.
