For 21 years, a man living with mental illness was tied to a wooden post. His days were marked by pain, isolation, and hopelessness. Then his story was shared over the radio. Compassionate listeners responded, making it possible for him to receive medical care and counseling. Little by little, his health improved. After decades of suffering, he was finally set free.
As he recovered, he began listening to Afno FM, our ministry partner’s Christian radio station. Many prayed for him, and in time he placed his trust in Jesus Christ. Today, he walks two hours to attend church. His wife has also come to faith, and the couple recently received a SonSet® radio of their own. They are deeply grateful, knowing firsthand how God can use a simple radio to bring hope where it once seemed impossible.
That same hope reached another family through this ministry partner. A young woman called the station asking for a broadcast about her disabled brother. After her family’s story aired, listeners helped them build a house. Some villagers predicted she would become a Christian, though at the time she had never heard the word “Christian” or understood its meaning. After listening to the station for eight years, she too came to faith in Christ. They too have their own solar radio that brings them much joy. They credit Afno FM for helping change their lives.
Trevor Schwarze, a Reach Beyond radio planter in the Asia Pacific region, says radios are difficult to distribute in sensitive places where the gospel is restricted and following Christ can be costly. Yet stories like this show why the effort matters: God is using radio to connect those in need with believers ready to respond, demonstrating His love in both word and deed.
