A Lighthouse in Turkiye

“Because of my anger, I lost my family, job, health. I tried to stop my anger with no success. I lost my hope to be free. Then I listened to your program about anger. I started crying. Maybe I can be free from my anger problem by your God. For the first time I am feeling hope. This is real.”

This is one of many accounts of changed lives through the ministry of Petra Media Group (PMG). According to CEO Soner Tufan, PMG “aims to be a lighthouse shining in the dark, showing the way to the truth in an age of conflicting ideas.”

On a recent visit to SonSet Solutions, Tufan described the challenges of sharing the gospel in Turkiye, a nation of 88 million people. Once the cradle of Christianity, Turkiye’s Christian population fell to under 1% by the end of the 1960s. Today it is officially secular, yet many believe that to be Turkish is to be Muslim. Converts are often viewed as traitors.

PMG is changing that story. Four radio stations broadcast in Arabic, Turkish and Russian, reaching Syria and Iraq, where FM licenses are not granted. Online, PMG uses YouTube, TikTok, apps, podcasts and video stories. Production, dubbing, translating and publishing are all done in-house, with content tailored to each audience.

Music opens doors, too. PMG produces more than six albums of Turkish Christian music each year. One Muslim listener wrote, “I don’t like you. Actually, I hate you. But I like your music. Because of your music, I listen to you.”

About 20 years ago, SonSet Solutions provided a radio transmitter for PMG’s first station, which still works today. Our engineers continue to assist, now considering solar power to offset energy costs.

Please pray that PMG will boldly provide relevant gospel programming, and receive a national radio license, to reach everyone in Turkiye.
