Small Hands, Global Reach

“I want to be the radio tower!”

A little girl yelled excitedly, holding her hand up high. Coming up front when she was selected, she raised her hands above her head and pressed them together into a point, playing the role of a broadcast tower. The other volunteers played the parts of missionary radio broadcaster, radio transmitter, and an unreached person with a SonSet® radio receiver. All the kids in the Vacation Bible School (VBS) classroom murmured with excitement as they learned about how radio can allow missionaries to reach people even in African countries like Guinea-Bissau.

We at SonSet Solutions desire to inspire young people to see what God is doing around the world and consider, even from such a young age, how they can be a part of it. This is the heart behind our involvement in VBS programs, each of which chooses one of our technologies for their funding project. Whether the project is SonSet radios or a Solar Ministry Toolkit, we aim to connect the kids with a specific partner overseas to open their eyes to ministry that is happening in far off places that lack much of what we take for granted.

At a recent VBS, funds were raised for a Solar Ministry Toolkit for Unreached People’s Mission in Tanzania, a ministry that trains pastors to plant churches in remote areas of the country. With the lights turned out in the classroom, the kids experienced how many of these churches have no access to electricity and the critical need for solar technology just to be able to have lights to meet for church at night.

God moved powerfully in the hearts of the kids and their parents. This was evident by the enthusiasm generated in their fundraising. Their goal was to raise enough money for one Solar Ministry Toolkit. Instead, they raised enough for two!

It’s a privilege to see the next generation developing a heart for missions and to help inspire them to be ambassadors for the Kingdom of God, wherever he leads them!
