The River of Healing – Part Two

While in Guinea, Joseph lived with a kind, widowed woman who opened her home to him as a desperate refugee. God’s providence began to reveal itself during this time. He found employment with missionaries doing humanitarian work in the region which would become the foundation of his future calling.

Through all his traveling, education, and ministry preparation in the years that followed, Joseph never returned to the Makona River. Something deep inside him couldn’t face those waters again.

Years later, God spoke to Joseph with crystal clarity. He said, “Joseph, I want you to go back to your home people and reach them with the gospel of Christ.”

The vision was specific: a radio station that would reach the Kissi people, Joseph’s own ethnic group. For nearly two decades the vision remained unfulfilled. In the meantime, Joseph began Vox Radio with the help of SonSet Solutions, a station focused on the war-affected youth of Liberia.

Then, in 2024, he shared the long-held vision with his ministry partners. He said, “God told me to build this radio station. But I’m barely surviving with Vox Radio, so I’m not thinking on a radio station now that will potentially reach three nations.” But one of his technical advisors rebuked him, “Joseph, … people are dying and going to hell TODAY!  We don’t have time, so I’m going to trust God with you that this project will happen.”

Within a month, funding appeared! The project that had been on the backburner for nineteen years suddenly hit the accelerator. But there was still one obstacle in Joseph’s healing process. Standing on the hill where the radio tower would be erected, Joseph’s heart stirred, compelling him to take a personal journey. He had to go back to the river.

To be continued …
