There are 3,000,000,000 people who have seldom, if ever, heard the name of Jesus. SonSet Solutions is part of an initiative called “A Third of Us.” This is an effort by a coalition of ministries dedicated to reaching that third of our world’s population who have never heard the gospel. The International Day for the Unreached is held on Pentecost Sunday each year – June 5 this year. It is a day to reflect on the sheer enormity of that number and renew our commitment to the Great Commission through prayer, support, and service.
Although the vast number of unreached people may seem overwhelming, it is encouraging to see the way that Christian groups are working together to combine their resources and technology in order to spread the gospel to the very ends of the earth.
The Yao of southeastern Africa are an example of a mostly unreached, resistant people group who live in Malawi. The Yao are the third largest ethnic group in Malawi. They are mainly subsistence farmers and fishermen. Ninety-nine percent of the Yao people are Muslim. As COVID-19 created fear around the world, Radio Lilanguka, a SonSet Solutions partner ministry in Malawi, has been able to transmit information about what individuals could do to help prevent the spread of the virus. As people tune in on SonSet® radios to hear important health information, they also hear the gospel and other Christian programs.
The Alliance for the Unreached, of which SonSet Solutions is a member, has a simple logo of three lines, reminding us that over a third of our world’s population has yet to hear the gospel. This June 5, consider taking some time to pray for these individuals and the missionaries reaching out to them. Find out more at www.athirdofus.com.
