A fierce young Samburu Moran (warrior) called the radio studio phone line. Sobbing, he gave his life to Christ. Desiring to change, he surrendered his gun to the government. This was the gun he had used for years to rustle cattle and attack people on the roads. In addition, he encouraged three of his warrior friends to listen to the radio station, and soon they gave their lives to Christ as well.
Radio Ashe in Samburu, Kenya, has been broadcasting for close to three years, and they have seen many come to Christ. Using Bible study materials that are aired, fourteen home groups have started, and over nine churches have been planted in remote villages. These villages have no access via roads and depend on the radio for Bible teaching and discipleship.
These four born-again warriors heard a program on the radio about starting their own business, using natural resources in their community. So, they began making Samburu belts and knife sheaths. Using their new source of income and a radio program, they now teach other Morans about Christ as well as how they can change their livelihoods and foster peace in their Samburu communities. So far, fifty-six Morans have shifted from fighting to starting ten registered businesses in the region. Radio Ashe hosted an open house event where these Samburu warriors had a chance to share their testimonies with their own people, in a language they could understand. They praise God for his faithfulness.
SonSet Solutions’ broadcast engineers sent Radio Ashe a transmitter when the station first started. More recently, we have sent them SonSet® radios. We thank the Lord for how he is using this station, and how many Samburu warriors now know Jesus and have changed lives.
