We are passionate about assisting gospel-focused ministries working among people groups in off-the-grid locations of the world – places with little to no electricity, a lack of clean-water sources, and limited access to the gospel – but, North Carolina?
What happens when disaster strikes? Whether it is war or natural, we in the “developed” world who enjoy all the conveniences of modern life can quickly be hurled into primitive conditions and find ourselves unprepared.
On September 26, Hurricane Helene was already a Category 4 storm when it hit northwestern Florida and ripped through several southeastern states. Western North Carolina seemed to catch the brunt of the storm experiencing its worst flooding in history. One hundred three deaths, about half of all fatalities connected with Hurricane Helene, occurred in North Carolina.
Almost immediately, a team from Water Mission was on the ground in western North Carolina. They provided electricity and installed 14 safe-water treatment systems producing more than 216,000 gallons of safe water. Some are located at schools in the Asheville area, allowing kids to return to their classes for the first time in almost two months.1
Our SonSetLink® technology has been installed on these water systems. These remote monitors inform Water Mission about the volume of water produced each day, as well as alerting Water Mission and our engineers, here in Elkhart, if the water systems need maintenance. This ensures this safe water continues to flow to these communities who are in such great need at this time.
Water Mission, a non-profit Christian engineering ministry SonSet Solutions works closely with, provides safe water solutions for both developing countries and disaster areas. Watermission.org keeps tabs on their impressive record, “To date, Water Mission has served more than 8 million people, through 3,200 projects in 60 countries and counting!”
Water Mission CEO and President, George Greene IV says, “In each response, our team is there to reassure those dealing with overwhelming loss that God is with them.” This was a rare opportunity for SonSet Solutions to utilize our technology on home turf and to be part of pointing people to the Lord.
