Disheveled and weary, the man stepped into the office of Radio Joy looking like he had been beaten. “Please, help me,” he pleaded. “Our little girl, our toddler, was in the market with my wife and disappeared into the crowd. We have been looking everywhere for three days and nights but cannot find our child. I will give you everything I own if you will help me find our daughter.”
Telling the man, “We don’t want everything you own; we don’t want anything from you,” and turning to the program producer, the station director said, “Put this on the air and keep broadcasting.” Within three hours, the little girl was returned to her mother and father.
A kind, elderly African woman had found the little girl wandering and didn’t know who she belonged to. She took the girl home, fed her and cared for her. Everybody in Kigoma listens to Radio Joy, and soon the lady’s neighbors came running to say, “We know who the child belongs to! We know where she needs to go!”
Radio Joy in Tanzania was built from scratch at a time when it was not possible to buy equipment in country. Building the first 125-foot tower out of local water pipe, they raised it without a crane! Though it took over five years to get a license, the station has now been on the air for eight years with a potential listening audience of 2.5 million. Radio Joy is recognized as one of the finest radio stations in Tanzania.
SonSet Solutions has had a hand in encouraging, mentoring, and acquiring equipment for the station. Today, Radio Joy is broadcasting the Good News of Jesus Christ 24 hours every day, and we are blessed to be able to partner with them.
